The program is seen to be one of the most popular immigration programs in Canada and it is an online program through which immigrants can get permanent residence in Canada. In this program, applicants are to create an online profile with some information like work experience, educational qualification, language proficiency in English or French, proof of sufficient funds to support you in Canada etc.
In this program, applicants are given a score after they must have completed their online profile. They will be ranked based on a comprehensive ranking system in a draw pool and the applicants that meet or exceed the CRS cut-off score will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in Canada.

Under the Express Entry System, the federal program you can go through to immigrate to Canada as a fashion designer is the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). Since fashion designing is a trade job, it falls into the National Occupation Classification (NOC) 5243 under the FSTP. This program is for qualified trade workers or immigrants withy skills, training, experience or qualifications in trade jobs who want to become permanent residents in Canada.
You don’t really need a job offer when applying for through this program. Let’s look at some of the requirements for this program:
- You should not be lower than 18 years of age
- There is no educational requirement for a skilled trade worker but having it can increase you score.
- You should have a paid work experience of at least two years whether part-time or full-time
- You must meet the required language level in English or French in each language ability (speaking, writing, reading and listening)
- You should have sufficient funds to support you to settle in Canada and also take care of any other family member coming with you unless you have a valid job offer
- You must successfully pass the security background check meaning you have no criminal record
- You must pass the medical examination check meaning you are in sound health
Still under the Express Entry System, you can still go through the Canadian Experience Class only if you have a Canadian work experience meaning that you must have worked for an employer in Canada for at least one year in the last three years during the application for permanent residence in Canada. It’s either you have worked as a Temporary Foreign worker or as a post graduate student. This experience gives you an opportunity to apply for permanent residence through this program.
The Provincial Nomination Program
This is a provincial immigration program in conjunction with the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. The program is designed to help provinces in Canada hire foreign skilled worker to fill up labour shortages in the province and contribute to the economy of the province. The provinces set out their own requirements and are responsible for nominating candidates depending on how eligible they are and if they meet the requirements the province has set out and the Canadian government will then approve the candidates to be invited to Canada.
As a fashion designer, you have the advantage of getting a nomination from a province in Canada as this profession and skill is in demand in many provinces and if you have enough experience, you can easily get a job offer from an employer in any of the province you want to reside in.
